It has been great to welcome everyone back to school this week, and I hope students and staff had a chance to recharge over the half-term break.
We have certainly started the new half term on a high. On Wednesday night our Year 10 Drama students performed Ghost Stories, and by all accounts they were absolutely brilliant. I didn’t get to see it this year (which has nothing at all to do with me not being a huge fan of scary stories…promise), but I know from previous years how inventive and atmospheric these performances are. It takes real courage to prepare and perform in front of an audience, and the confidence, talent and commitment to put on the event is something to be proud of. Well done to everyone involved.
I’ve also spent time recently meeting with anyone who teaches a Year 11 class. What has struck me most is how consistently positive they have been about this group of young people: their attitude, commitment and determination to make the most of their final year at Marple Hall is evident. There is lots of hard work ahead, but they have made a very encouraging start. Thanks of course also go to my colleagues who know their students so well and are doing all that they can to support them.
The next six weeks will be busy, as they always are. There is plenty to look forward to between now and Christmas, and I’m sure our students will continue to give us plenty to celebrate.
Best wishes
Joe Barker
