I have been blessed over the years to be able to watch 14 of 15 school productions (I forget exactly how many were cancelled due to Covid). They are always huge events, taking thousands of hours of practice and preparation to get right. The shows are always great and I’ve enjoyed every one… but sometimes then are exceptional. This year was one of the very best I have ever seen, with Team MHS absolutely smashing Mary Poppins Jr.
I’m writing this on Thursday evening having just got back from the final performance, ears still ringing from the rapturous applause that echoed around Bradshaw Hall as the curtain came down. The quality of the production was simply fantastic, with the cast so expertly lead by Ava in the title role and supported by assured and confident performances from everyone involved. The songs, the choreography, the music, the staging and the technical effects were stunning, complemented by the wonderful costumes and props. I know that it takes a huge team to pull off a performance like this, with so many staff, students and parents doing their bit, but blimey did it come together!
We’ve had quite a few great moments in school in the past few years. Sporting excellence, great exam results, positive Ofsted reports…and then tonight the students and staff at MHS showed their creative talents in abundance. I could tell from the emotions on stage at the end just what being part of the show meant for the all those involved, young and old, and never have I been prouder to be the Headteacher of this great school. It’s been brilliant too to be able to show the performance to hundreds of primary school students earlier in the week, as well as 330 of our own Year sevens this afternoon. Fingers crossed the next set of stars have been suitably inspired, I am sure they will have been.
Thank you to everyone who made it possible, and ‘Anything can happen if you let it’.
Have a lovely weekend,
Joe Barker
