During this last week of the school year, Monday July 15th to Friday July 19th, pupils in Y7 to Y9 will not attend their normal timetabled lessons and instead a range of Enrichment activities will be in place for pupils. These will include opportunities for pupils to develop their creative, physical and team building skills and to take part in some off-site visits. In addition to the school-based activities and visits we are planning to run several UK based and international residential visits for pupils in Y7 to Y9. Details of the proposed residential visits on offer can be found below. Please note that the costs of the visits shown are provisional until pupil numbers and itineraries are confirmed with the travel companies.

Pastoral – YMCA LAKESIDE Trip 2024

The Pastoral team would like to invite your child to participate in our trip to YMCA Lakeside in Ulverston. This is open to all Year9 students. We will depart on the Sunday 14th July 2024, in the afternoon and return on Wednesday 17th July 2024, early evening.

On the trip, our students will have lots of opportunities to make the most of the natural resources that lakeside has to offer. This will improve their team building skills alongside increasing independence.

The activities will include activities such as Canoeing, Raft building, Teamwork, Fell Walking, Caving, and lots more.

The price includes travel (via coach), accommodation, food, and all activities.

Isle Of Mull – Camas Activity Centre

Your child is invited to participate in a wonderful opportunity to ‘get away from it all’ on the beautiful Isle of Mull. The Camas centre is housed in 200-year-old cottages in a stunning bay on the Ross of Mull and is an incredible setting for spending a few days connecting with other people and the natural environment. Commonly seen wildlife on the Ross of Mull includes otters, white tailed sea eagles, golden eagles, red deer, and seals.

Each day at Camas follows a simple rhythm of communal meals, shared chores, reflections, outdoor and indoor activities, games, and gardening. After a busy day, we gather in the common room by candlelight to play games, listen to music, drink hot chocolate, and reflect on the day together as we wind down before bed.

Day 1 – travel to Oban by coach, ferry to Mull, onward journey to Camas, including a 25 minute walk with luggage from the road to the centre.

Days 2-4 – a range of indoor and outdoor activities [weather dependent]

Day 5 – return travel.

The trip promises to be a very special chance for students to switch off from technology (WiFi is limited) and immerse themselves in the natural environment. They will also be expected to take part in the communal ‘chores’ each day.

The estimated cost of the trip is £500 and includes coach travel, ferry travel, all food, activities, and dormitory accommodation in bunk beds.

PGL Newby Wiske Hall Y7 only

Newby Wiske Hall is PGL’s newest adventure centre located in the picturesque North Yorkshire countryside. Significant investment has been made to transform the former police headquarters into an incredible outdoor centre, set in over 30 acres of outdoor space.

Year 7 students are invited to take part in 3 days and 2 nights (Monday to Wednesday) of fun packed outdoor activities and team building exercises. Activities may include abseiling, raft building orienteering, giant swing, archery, problem solving.

Accommodation will be in state-of-the-art “bunkpods” with en-suite shower/toilet.

All meals are provided from the buffet style dining room which means children can ‘mix and match’ the items they love most.

The estimated cost of this visit is £350.00 including travel, accommodation, meals, and activities.

Science Visit to Brussels.

The Science Department would like to invite your child to participate in our trip to Brussels, Belgium. We will depart school on Monday 15th July 2023 and travel back to school Thursday 18th July 2023.

On the trip our students will have lots of opportunities see all the sights of Brussels while experiencing some science in another country.

Pupils will spend some time enjoying what Brussels has to offer, including a guided tour of Brussels European space centre, enjoying the views of the Atomium, exploring a Mini Europe, and looking at the stars in the planetarium.

There will be time to enjoy Frites and waffles and plenty of opportunities to buy chocolate.

We will travel to Brussels by coach and ferry. We will stay in a hotel, with all meals provided.

The cost of the visit includes the accommodation on a full-board basis, all entrance fees for the attractions and the return coach and ferry travel.

WW1 Battlefields Tour of Belgium – History Department

The History Department would like to invite your child to participate in our trip to Belgium. We will depart school on Monday the 15th of July and travel back to school on Thursday 18th July 2024.

This is an exciting opportunity for students to travel back in time to explore what life was like for soldiers on the front-line during World War One.

Pupils will travel by coach down to Belgium via a ferry where they will meet their expert historian guide who will give them an engaging insight into the battlefront. They will visit a variety of locations including museums, memorials, and cemeteries to gain an authentic trenches experience.

Highlights of the trip will include the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate, Thiepval Memorial, Wellington Quarry, Newfoundland Park and the In Flanders Field Museum. Students will also be able to enjoy an evening of ten pin bowling and the opportunity to learn how Belgian chocolate is made.

This trip will build upon students’ knowledge of WW1 from Year 9 History and can help students prepare for GCSE History (although this is not essential).

The cost of the trip will include all travel costs, visits to attractions, meals while in Belgium.

Design Visit to Florence

Pupils are invited to join the Technology Department on our design trip to Florence during Enrichment Week 2024. The trip will run from Monday 15th July – Thursday 18th July 2024. The trip will include return flights from Manchester, hotel accommodation on a Bed & Breakfast basis, evening meals each night, and some packed lunches being provided (to be confirmed). Students will be immersed in the Tuscan culture, which is home to the many pieces of Renaissance art and architecture, including visits to The Pitti Palace & Boboli Gardens, the Galleria dell’ Accademia – home to Michelangelo’s “David” sculpture, the Uffizi Gallery, the world-famous Duomo Cathedral, the Gucci Museum, and not forgetting the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa. The trip is set to be our best yet, full of exciting adventures and traditional Italian cuisine. The cost of the trip will be approximately £850.00.

Stunning Sicily – Geography Trip:

Join us on a journey of a lifetime to the dynamic and historical landscape of Sicily. From the largest active volcano in Europe to the cultural treasures of Sicily’s towns and cities, this trip promises to excite a love for our built and natural world. Day by day, students will have the opportunity to experience some of the world’s most active volcanoes, discover ancient Greek ruins, explore the beautiful coastline, and taste incredible food.

This 4-day (3 night) trip has been designed to explore the very best of what Sicily has to offer, whilst providing opportunities to discover the History and Geography of the area. From the moment we depart Manchester Airport to the second we return students will be experiencing unique activities and fascinating landscapes. Our time will be spent touring the dramatic coastline of the Cyclops Riviera, ascending Mount Etna to witness breathtaking panoramas of Catania below, visit the unique volcanic Alcantara Gorge, and make pizza in the historical Taormina.

Throughout our stay students will be expertly supervised and led by local guides and mountaineers, be transported by coach around the island, and stay in 3-star accommodation with breakfast and evening meals included. The cost of the trip also includes flights and baggage.

The cost of the trip is estimated to be £950 (subject to changes to flight costs). The trip will run from Sunday 14th – Wednesday 17th July 2024.

Spanish Language Visit to Madrid

The MFL department invite you to experience Spain’s capital city on this culture packed visit to Madrid. We will fly form Manchester airport arriving in Spain’s capital on Monday 15th July. We plan to pack a lot into our visit including a visit to Las Ventas, touring the city, and visiting Real Madrid’s stadium El Bernabeu and a full day at Warner Park theme park. This will be an excellent opportunity for pupils to practice speaking the Spanish they have learnt in school. We will fly back to Manchester on Thursday 18th July.

The estimated cost of the visit is £750 which will include all travel, entrance fees to all attractions and accommodation on a half board basis.

The Barcelona Sports Trip with PE 2024

Sun, Sea, and water Sports all on the Spanish coast, what’s not to love?

The PE Department would like to invite your child to our Barcelona Sports Trip 2024. We are planning on departing the morning of Monday 15th July and be traveling back the Thursday 18th July. On the trip the students will have the opportunity to take part in water sports including Kayaking, Paddle boarding, Windsurfing and Sailing in the Mediterranean! We will also be planning an excursion Catalonia’s best water park! And a trip to Barcelona would not be complete without a morning in the city, finished off with a trip to the home of Barcelona Football Club, Camp Nou!

In addition to this, the resort we are staying at, Sant Jordi Hotel, has a pool on site, all the sports facilities you could wish for AND its own access to the beach! We will be traveling by plane.

Iceland Experience – Science trip

Embark on a scientific adventure to the land of fire and ice. Where natural forces fuse with the technology of science, Iceland is all about the drama. There’s no better place to experience the uses of geothermal energy, the impacts of glaciation and the spectacular landscape that brings it all together.

Iceland is home to stunning mountain ranges, bubbling volcanoes, vast glaciers, and powerful geysers. This landscape makes Iceland a once-in a-lifetime destination, with plenty of opportunities to discover the science of a fascinating country.

Students will have the opportunity to explore this fascinating island whilst learning directly in line with the Science curriculum, complete with the expertise of a local guide and designated subject specialists. From the moment we depart Manchester Airport to the second we return, our journey will be jam-packed with the very best experiences that Iceland has to offer, including a visit to the Secret Lagoon Pool, heated by geothermal energy, visit glaciers, waterfalls, volcanoes, black sand beaches and a hands-on experience at Iceland’s LAVA centre.

Students will stay in 4-star accommodation, be transported to locations around the island on a private coach and all meals will be included. The cost of this trip also included return flights and baggage from Manchester Airport.

We have been able to get a quote with the travel company for flights leaving on Sunday morning 14th July returning on Thursday morning 18th July. This will give a greater amount of time for pupils actually at the destination (the previous quote was for Sunday afternoon to Wednesday morning effectively giving pupils only 2 full days)

However, the cost of this visit will now be in the region of £1250, including travel, excursions and full board at the hotel with a deposit of £350 payable to secure the flights on acceptance of the place.

London Drama Experience

We are thrilled to invite your child to embark on an unforgettable adventure – the London Drama Experience! From Monday, July 15th to Thursday, July 18th, 2024, our Drama Department is set to create memories that will last a lifetime.

This thrilling four-day, three-night escapade is designed to fully immerse students into the world of performing arts. Our itinerary is packed with exciting activities that promise a perfect blend of education and fun!

The trip includes Theatre trips to the spellbinding ‘Hamilton’, the toe-tapping ‘Sister Act’, and the brand-new sensation, “Mean Girls”! We’ll even dine at the theatre café, where the serving staff are known to break into song and dance! And that’s just the beginning. We’re venturing into the spine-chilling depths of the London Dungeon and getting an exclusive backstage tour of the legendary Drury Lane Theatre. The adventure continues with a visit to the awe-inspiring National History Museum and a tour of the iconic sights of London. And what trip to London would be complete without a visit to the magical world of Harry Potter Studios? Your child will step into the enchanting universe where the magic was brought to life on screen.

Rest assured, their stay at the Premier Inn will be comfortable, with breakfast and evening meals included.

The cost of this extraordinary trip is approximately £640. Our dedicated trip leader, Dean Osgood, will be there to ensure everything runs smoothly.

This London Drama Experience promises not only a chance to hone performance skills but also to create cherished memories.
