It is the school’s policy to enter all students for public examinations. Most students in 2008 – 2009 were prepared for nine subjects. The choice of examination board is at the Head of Department’s discretion. At present Year 10 and 11 students are prepared for GCSE examinations and Diploma’s set by OCR, AQA and EDEXCEL. Students in other Year groups may sit Modern Foreign Language subjects at an earlier date but usually all subjects are taken in Year 11. In 2009-2010 AS level examinations in Maths and Modern Foreign Lanauages set by EDEXCEL and WJEC are also being offered.
Music Grade Examination Results – Associated Board
The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and the London College of Music Graded Music examinations are undertaken annually by students. Grades for these qualifications range from 1 to 5 and students have presently achieved a 100% pass rate.
Vocational Qualifications & Young Apprenticeships
Opportunities to gain recognised Level 1 and Level 2 vocational awards are also available to Year 10 and 11 students.
British Airways Flag Award
Each year students are given the opportunity to gain the prestigious British Airways Flag Award, a vocational qualification, in at least one Modern Foreign Language.
Marple Hall School was chosen, along with five other high schools from the North West Region, to offer students this vocational qualification.
Staff, who have been specially trained, administer tests in speaking, reading, listening/interpreting.
Tasks are similar to those which a British Airways employee dealing with a passenger from overseas might have to undertake. We are very proud to have been chosen from the hundreds of schools in our region!
Junior Sports Leadership Award
Year 10 students are also offered the opportunity to undertake a Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership
